feelings of shame and that we are not valued or that we are not competent or intelligent. Gabor Maté argues we live in a toxic culture because modern society prioritizes productivity, competition, and disconnection over genuine human needs,

Brain Wiring - Our culture, because of the factory school model it adopted at the beginning of the industrial revolution, favors those who are docile, show up on time, and are willing to compete and follow directions. This was good for training people
to be good factory workers but marginalized those who are high energy or that think differently. In fact, having natural variations in brain wiring has been selected for because it supports survival to have different approaches to innovations
